Many years ago, as teenager, I had a baby sister and I loved her as if she was my own. I also had undying love for fantasy and “what if” scenarios, and a lot of self-righteous rage focused on the way the world seemed to be going. Basically, I was a typical teenager.
This bubbled inside me and triggered a chain reaction of sisterly love and fantastic imagination that ended up being the seed of what today I call #ProyectoExtraños (#ProjectStrangers): an idea that has grown and gotten polished through the years, and now is time for it to see the light.
Why am I telling you this? Because this week I’ve signed the contract that will lead to its publication, the first book born of my mind and fingers. My first-born literary child.
Last year I took a leap of faith and submitted the final manuscript to a contest held by R.E. Editores, a young publishing house. A couple of weeks ago I got their answer: #ProyectoExtraños had gotten first place. And thus started a new path, one that I haven’t walked before, and that I hope you will share with me.
Are you staying on the road to publication?
Hace muchos años, de adolescente, tenía una hermana pequeña y la quería como si fuera mía. También sentía una pasión intensa por la fantasía y los “¿y si…?”, y una rabia atroz hacia el camino que parecía que estaba tomando el mundo. Básicamente, era una adolescente normal y corriente.
Todo eso tomó forma en mí y desencadenó una reacción en cadena de amor fraternal y fantasía burbujeante que acabó siendo el garmen de lo que hoy llamo #ProyectoExtraños: una idea que ha crecido y he pulido a lo largo de los años, y a la que le ha llegado el momento de ver la luz.
¿Que porqué os cuento esto? Porque esta semana he firmado el contrato que llevará a su publicación, el primer libro salido de mi mente y mi teclado. Mi primogénito literario.
Al año pasado di un salto de fe y envié el manuscrito final al certamen de R.E. Editores, una editorial pequeñita. Hace un par de semanas recibí su respuesta: #ProyectoExtraños había quedado en primer lugar. Y así empezó un nuevo camino, uno que todavía no he transitado y que espero que compartáis conmigo.
