As a writer, I know how important it is to create a captivating story that will hook readers from the first page to the last. I spend months, years even, honing the words and arranging them carefully, laying the bricks that will make or break the plot, the character archs, everything. But one aspect of the book that I often (and mistakenly!) overlook is the title. The first thing a potential reader sees, along with the cover, the one that can make or break their decision to pick up the book… that’s the thing I leave for last.

Maybe is because I know title should be memorable, attention-grabbing, and provide a hint of what the story is about. It should be intriguing enough to make the reader curious about what lies inside the pages but not tell enough that it unveils the story’s mysteries. It has to be just perfect, and that means it is a scary and daunting task.

Sometimes, after all the brainstorming and juggling of ideas, I’m still at a loss. And other times, like with #ProyectoExtraños, it comes from the mouth of somebody else, real or imaginary, and everything clicks as the pieces fit into place.

And now, after having hidden it for so long, I’m excited to announce the title today, April 23rd, World Book Day. A day dedicated to celebrating books and reading, and what better way to do that than by sharing my own title with you all.

The title my own characters gave me, and that I hope you find as fitting as I do, once you get the chance to read the book.

Como escritora, sé lo importante que es crear una historia cautivadora, que enganche a los lectores desde la primera página hasta la última. Paso meses, incluso años, puliendo las palabras y ordenándolas cuidadosamente, colocando los ladrillos que harán o desharán la trama, los arcos de los personajes, todo. Pero un aspecto del libro que a menudo (y equivocadamente) dejo de lado es el título. Lo primero que ve un posible lector, junto con la portada, lo que puede hacer o deshacer su decisión de coger el libro… eso es lo que dejo para el final.

Tal vez sea porque sé que el título debe ser memorable, llamativo y dar una pista de qué va la historia. Debe ser lo suficientemente intrigante como para despertar la curiosidad del lector sobre lo que se esconde entre las páginas, pero no contar lo suficiente como para revelar los misterios de la trama. Tiene que ser justo perfecto, y eso lo hace una tarea aterradora.

A veces, después de todas las lluvias de ideas y de dar vueltas a las ideas, todavía me cuesta dar con él. Y otras veces, como con #ProyectoExtraños, alguien, real o imaginario, dice las palabras mágicas y todo encaja perfectamente.

Así que ahora, después de haberlo ocultado durante tanto tiempo, me emociona anunciaros el título hoy, 23 de abril, Día Mundial del Libro. Un día dedicado a celebrar los libros y la lectura, y ¿qué mejor manera de hacerlo que compartiendo mi propio título con vosotros?

El título que me dieron mis propios personajes, y que espero que encontréis tan adecuado como yo, una vez que tengáis la oportunidad de leer el libro.
